Dr. Harninder Sandhu is the proud owner of Bayshore Optometric Clinic. She is originally from UK, Birmingham. She attended the University of Bradford, where she received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Optometry in 1996. After training for a year in London, Dr. Sandhu, licensed as an optometrist in many parts of UK, gained experience in different types of clinics, providing a service to a wide variety of patients. Dr. Sandhu returned to University and completed her Masters of Optometry in 1999.
Dr. Sandhu decided to move to Canada to further pursue her career. She completed her exams and became a licensed optometrist and a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Over the years she has worked in both an independent environment as well as in an office with other associates.
Dr. Sandhu has now opened her own clinic in the Bayshore Shopping Centre where she provides services in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. Dr. Sandhu has a special interest in eye manifestations of diabetes and enjoys fitting contact lenses for all types of patients, for example patients with astigmatism or presbyopia (bifocal/multifocal contacts).
She enjoys volunteering her services and has taken part in a mission to Guyana. While there, she helped the residents of this developing country obtain the gift of sight with gently used glasses that have been kindly donated.
Dr. Sandhu is a member of the College of Optometry and has been a member of the Inquiries, Reports and Complaints Committee. She has also been a member of the Disciplinary Committee. She is also an active member of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists.
Outside of work, she enjoys CrossFit, gardening, biking, running, and spending time with her daughters and husband.
Dr. D'Cruz was born and raised in Montreal. In 2010, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University, and then spent a year as a Laboratory Assistant at the McGill Vision Research Lab. This experience led her to pursue a career in Optometry at the University of Waterloo. During her time there she was an active student, being part of many groups such as the Canadian Association of Optometry Students committee and the UW Lions Club, and she was President of the Waterloo Health Professions Committee. As part of her education, she was exposed to many different specialized clinics, including pediatrics, contact lenses, ocular health and binocular vision. In her final year, Dr. D'Cruz traveled to New York City to complete an internship at the St. Albans Veterans Affairs Medical Centre where she received extensive training in ocular disease management. She graduated in 2015, and moved to Ottawa in 2017. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO), and Ottawa Society of Optometrists (OSO). In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, skiing and travelling.
Dr. Karen Mowbray, originally from Ancaster, Ontario, studied Natural Sciences and Biology at McMaster University, then studied Optometry at the University of Waterloo, graduating with a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1993. She then successfully completed a TPA certification course at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and became a TPA certified optometrist in 2008 when legislation was passed allowing Ontario optometrists to prescribe medications for eye disease.
Dr. Mowbray is a member in good standing of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, and the Ottawa Society of Optometrists where she enjoys attending continuing education courses. She is currently a Quality Assurance Assessor for the College, and evaluates the clinical records of optometrists throughout Ontario.
After co-owning and managing a busy practice in the Ottawa Valley for over 20 years, Dr. Mowbray is thoroughly enjoying seeing patients part time at Bayshore Optometric alongside Dr.’s Sandhu, Winn and Moosa. In her free time, she enjoys reading, painting, running, walking her Golden Retriever and raising a teenager.
